Welcome to BigJoeDuskin.org !!!

Music education for young children seems to be considered a luxury in America.  Absolutely not.  It is more of a requirement than Reading, Writing and Arithmetic.  Click here to learn how music education increases children's intelligence and "learning to play a musical instrument changes the brain, leading to a slew of potential benefits, including improved learning and understanding of language."

Our mission is:

"To provide educational music experiences and encouragement to participate in school band for as many public elementary students as possible, primarily using local professional musicians."

In the panel on the left, you'll find pages with all the info on the great things we've been doing.  Since 2010, over 20,000 students have seen our 70 performances in Greater Cincinnati elementary schools.  We changed gears a bit in fall 2014 and started writing checks to elementary schools for their music programs.  We choose schools based on their state exam scores, starting at the bottom of the list.  Music education for young children improves their language, math and science skills and these are the children who need help the most.

In October 2014, we gave:

William H. Taft Elementary - $2,000

Rothenberg Academy - $2,000

Roberts Academy - $1,000

Covington James E. Biggs Early Childhood Education Center - $1,000

Covington Ninth District Elementary - $1,000

Newport Primary School - $1,000

We are starting our high school program !!!

On Thursday, May 7, 2015 at 7pm, the first performance of the Big Joe Duskin Foundation Orchestra will be a fundraiser at Deer Park High School for their music program !!!

We can't announce the members of the orchestra just yet, but if you know anything about Cincinnati Jazz, you will recognize a lot of names.  The Deer Park High School Jazz Ensemble will perform the first few songs, then our orchestra wil perform an evening of Count Basie favorites, featuring songs and arrangements by Cincinnati native and Count Basie bandleader Frank Foster.

The one musician we can name right now is King Studio legend Philip Paul.  He will perform drums on "Shiny Stockings", which Frank Foster wrote about a childhood friend who later became Philip's wife, Juanita Paul.  Although we can't name names just yet, we can tell you we have a five year veteran of touring with George Benson and a six year veteran of touring with Ray Charles joining us.  Deer Park High School music students and adult boosters are selling tickets to this show.

Of course, you'll also find some great history about boogie-woogie pianist Big Joe Duskin.  Enjoy your visit and let us know if you have any questions or info we could add to the website.

Lonely Instruments for Needy KidS (LINKS) could really use some help supplying school requests for instruments. Alto saxes and flutes in particular, but everything helps. They can be donated at any Buddy Roger's Music Store. Click here for full details on LINKS. Click here to join the LINKS Facebook page.
